Did you know that there are actually eight different types of avocados? Here’s what you should know.

There are eight different types of avocados that are good in certain seasons of the year. Ninety percent of the avocados that are grown in the United States are grown in California, while the rest are grown in Florida. Here are the different types of avocados and some things you should know.

  1. Lamb Hass Avocado – weighs eleven to nineteen ounces, are best eaten in June to October.
  2. Reed Avocado – weighs eight to eighteen ounces, are best eaten July to October.
  3. Pinkerton Avocado – weighs eight to eighteen ounces, best eaten November to February.
  4. Gwen Avocado – weighs six to fifteen ounces, best eaten February to June.
  5. Bacon Avocado – weighs six to twelve ounces, best eaten November to February.
  6. Zutano Avocado – weighs six to fourteen ounces, best eaten September to November.
  7. Fuerte Avocado – weighs five to fourteen ounces, best eaten November to February.
  8. Reed Avocado – weighs eight to eighteen ounces, best eaten July to October.

Hass, Lamb Hass, and Reed avocados are the only type of you’ll see in stores outside of California.
