DAY 13 – 30DaysOfAvoToast: The Bavarian

As some of you already know we (Julia & Daniel) are from Germany. Although we are not from Bavaria (a federal state) we felt we must include a German recipe! (By the way: Germans do not wear a Lederhose all the time, we just look like normal people with shirts and jeans 😉 ).

But back to the toast! There are a lot of typical German foods like Bratwurst, Sauerkraut, Schnitzel (which is actually from Austria) or Potato Salad we could have incorporated. As we are doing a toast special we thought the most appropriate German food is a Brezel. Yes, it is spelled Brezel (not pretzel) in Germany. A German Brezel also tastes a little different. It is not soft, but crisp on the outside. Traditionally you eat it with “Weißwurst” (white sausage) and traditional Bavarian sweet mustard, or just butter. You can buy Brezels in Germany in almost every bakery and also in different flavors.

Today’s avocado “toast” is a Brezel with (a lot of) sunflower seeds.
We topped it with mashed avocado and beetroot sprouts. Enjoy it with a huge glass of beer at your Oktoberfest party!
